Who are the Kaingang?

The Kaingang are an indigenous people in southern Brazil. Since 1972 we work among them in the state of Parana. Today, through digitalization, this people is in the 21st century. The century arrived. This brings many possibilities but also challenges.

Why is revision necessary?

Language is constantly evolving like a culture, which can greatly change the meaning and meaning of words. The cultural influence on the language has a strong impact on translation and revision work.

The challenge with the Kaingang is to bring many terms into the verb form. Thus, our words forgiveness or forgiveness are translated as "behind you."

OUR PROCEDURES

REVISIONS

Together with a team, Ka’egso and Eipeen Hery are working on the revision of the entire Bible. Based on the working version of Prof. Dr. Ursula Wiesemann, the text must be revised by native speakers in order to be correct and understandable. After completion of the first revision of the AT (2022), work is now underway on the 3rd revision edition of the NT.

THEOLOGICAL REFLECTION

Every translation day is an intensive understanding of wanting and looking for suitable and good formulations. When translating, they always have to theologically reflect on some key concepts and consider which words have become "independent" in their meaning in the churches over the years and bring an unhealthy legality into the faith.

READING IN GROUPS

After the team has revised a biblical book, employee Sebastião reads it out loud with a small group. This allows them to check readability and, if necessary, to correct it. This joint reading arouses the interest of others. They want to hear more about the stories of the Bible and understand the connections of the NT and the OT.
