Wolfgang Winkler becomes Director of the Marburg Mission Foundation
The Board of Trustees of the Marburg Mission Foundation (MM) held its meeting on 28 November. May 2025 in Gunzenhausen Wolfgang Winkler unanimously appointed director. The 56-year-old will succeed Rainer Becker on January 1, 2026, who will retire after more than two decades of successful management. His official introduction to the office is for the 28. February 2026 is planned.
Wolfgang Winkler has been closely associated with the MM for 31 years. After his training as a motor vehicle mechanic, he completed his theological training at the Brüderhaus Tabor in Marburg and subsequently completed a master’s degree in missiology at the Academy for World Mission (AWM) in Korntal. He is also an academic PR consultant.
From 1995 to 2007, Winkler worked with his family in missionary work in northern Thailand before moving to MM in 2007 and serving as deputy director since then. The married father of three adult daughters thus brings extensive practical missionary experience and in-depth organizational knowledge.
"We are convinced that Wolfgang Winkler is the right person to lead the Marburg Mission Foundation into the future," explains Matthias Boeddinghaus, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. "His deep connection to the work and projects and his involvement in various processes of the organization qualify him in a special way for this responsible task." His knowledge of the organization, his leadership skills and the great trust placed in him by various sides were decisive for the unanimous decision of the Board of Trustees.
Wolfgang Winkler has accepted the vocation: I am happy to face the new task with all humility and respect. My predecessor gives me a solid foundation for further work, said the director-designate. His main tasks include opening up the Marburg mission to future generations and building a younger leadership team. "I look forward to working with our dedicated team to shape the next phase of missionary work," said Winkler.
