The story of Bethesda begins with a dental clinic founded by Sister Kunigunde Brunner in Hualien. Later, the focus of the work shifts from the treatment of dental emergencies to the care and support of multiple disabled children who have had no value in Taiwanese society. After 70 years, Bethesda has become "where God’s love dwells."

Why we work for people with disabilities

People with disabilities often live in isolation and without perspective. Their families are often overwhelmed and cannot provide necessary support alone. Because of their isolation, they belong to the group least reached by the gospel.
With our work in Bethesda and the hearbeat sponsorship program, we have a clear goal: people with disabilities worldwide should find their voice, the greatest independence and development of their abilities.

Our offerors

MEDICAL THERAPEUTICS

Close care of the residents is very important for Bethesda. There is both a weekly visit to a permanent doctor and various therapists. In addition, there are visits to hospitals that can also meet the special needs of the people in Bethesda.

Pedagogic

The promotion of pedagogical education takes place mainly in three areas:

– Everyday promotion: the residents are promoted in the tasks of everyday life (e.g. brushing of teeth, hygiene, relationships, etc.) and offered help if they ask for it.
– Independence: the own ability of the inhabitants to act is in a special focus. It is not primarily a question of relieving the inhabitants of tasks than of empowering them to be active themselves.
- Joy of life: Life should not consist of expenses, but of joy. Play offers and the promotion of the talents of the residents is therefore of central importance.

GENERAL SEAL

Bethesda is the place where God’s love dwells. For this, of course, the spiritual accompaniment of the inhabitants is also important. Every day there is a devotion in Bethesda and on Sundays also the opportunity to attend a service. Of course, attention is also paid to the cognitive ability of the residents.
In addition, there are also visits from short-term or long-term teams of various mission organizations.
