Children and Parents of Missionaries
Missionary children belong to the "Third Culture Kids" (children with third culture). This means that they are usually shaped in German in their family (language, habits, culture). At the same time, they live in their everyday life (school, friends) in a completely different situation.
On the one hand, this is a great enrichment: Early on, they learn several languages and make experiences that many adults do not know. On the other hand, this situation leads to a certain uprooting: In the country of deployment they are the German foreigners; As soon as they come to Germany, they realize that this is not their home. This sense of homelessness can lead to uncertainty and disorientation.
The parents of the missionaries are also involved in the mission. They give their "yes" to the broadcast of their children. With age, they experience how much "the length of time bears the burden." Travel to their children, which were previously well possible, are more difficult or no longer take place. Who will support them in their old age, accompany them and provide for them? Again and again the "yes" to the mission of Jesus and the mission of their children must be spoken.
Thank you,
- for the parents of the missionaries who are behind the mission of their children.
- for the children of missionaries.
We PLEASE:
- For the wisdom of parents in the important decisions for their children (education, school, boarding school) and for the internal and external protection of children.
- that the children, despite their limited sense of home in this world, are completely secure in their heavenly home and find security and support with God.
- that children develop a strong sense of home on a final return to Germany (profession, study).
- that the parents of missionaries today are concretely strengthened by God and provided with what they need.
