A Modern Bible for the Kaingang

The Kaingang people live on a large area in Brazil and sometimes even other countries of South America. They too need the Word of God in their own language. Almost 50 years ago, a Wycliff missionary, Mrs. Wiesemann, translated the entire Bible into the Kaingang language.

This is a great treasure.

But language is never quite fixed, it lives and breathes like the people who speak it.

Our missionaries Ka’egso and Eipeen Hery, while working in Queimadas under Kaingang, repeatedly reached the limits of their possibilities with this aging Bible translation. And because Ka’egso himself grew up among the Kaingang and knows the (spiritual) struggles of these people accordingly well, they decided a few years ago to revise the Bible translation. On the one hand, they work with Kaingang on site as a translation team. On the other hand, the theological decisions in translation work are also discussed and discussed again and again with the Brazilian Bible Society.

These hardworking translators have now completed the Old Testament. A large part of the New Testament as well.

Thank you,

  • for the ever new task of finding committed and spiritually mature Christians for the translation team. Thank you for being amazingly successful.
  • for the commitment of the Brazilian Bible Society, which is infinitely helpful.

We PLEASE:

  • For strength and motivation so that the revision of the Bible can be completed by the end of 2025
  • A deep understanding of the Word of God, which not only remains on paper, but reaches the hearts of the employees
  • for a good tactic, how the completed translation can also be brought to our people.
